The Arado Ar 196 was the main embarked reconnaissance seaplane used by the Kriegsmarine during the Second World War. Low-wing single-engine monoplane housed 2 crew members arranged in tandem inside the cockpit: the pilot and the observer-gunner. The Arado Ar 196 was a very modern aircraft for the period. The BMW 132 9-cylinder radial engine produced 960 horsepower. The Arado’s design was optimized for use aboard major battleships and cruisers of the German Navy.
