The Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet is a modern single-seat twin-engine carrier-based fighter derived directly from the original design of the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet. Wider and heavier than its predecessor, it is characterized by significantly improved flight and combat characteristics. Recognizable for the shape of the wings, which guarantee high maneuverability, the air intakes and the tail rudder, it entered service with the US Navy in the early 2000s to replace the F-14 Tomcats and to carry out air defense missions of the fleet.
